Charity Run 20th Feb 2011

Charleville and District Vintage Veteran and Classic Club held a very successful charity run on Sunday 20 February 2011 in aid of St.Joseph’s Foundation Charleville and The Friends of Mallow Hospital.  We were lucky with the day which was cold but dry.  We had a great  turn out with over 60 cars.  Gerry Hynes and Dom Treacy had a fine route planned; cross country to Doneraile, then on to Kildorrery and to our first pit stop in T.O. Park, Knockadea,  where we stopped for a chat over a cup of tea, next to a roaring turf fire.  Thanks to the staff of T.O Park for their hospitality and to Joe and Marie Weathers  for supplying  the lovely scones.  After an hour or so we got on the road again and wound our way through Ballinvreena,  Kilfinnane, Ardpatrick and back to Charleville, where we stopped for dinner.  A big thank you to the staff of the Charleville Golf Club for their good food and hospitality.   Thanks also to St Joseph’s Foundation for the use of their kitchen and car park, to Bridget and Eileen for making the tea and coffee in the morning and to our stewarts.  Thanks to all who brought back completed sponsor cards and to those who contributed on the day.  A lot of sponsor cards are still due back, we would be grateful if they could be returned in the next week or so, so that we can make the presentations to the two charities.  Details of all monies collected will be announced when known.

Tractor Run 6 March 2011

We had a large turn-out of tractors for our first tractor run of 2011 on Sunday 6 March, with 36 tractors on the day.  We started from Canon Hayes Memorial Hall in Effin and were lucky that it stayed dry though cold.  Credit is due to those who braved the elements without the comfort of a cab on their tractor.  There were a lot of spectators on our journey to Dromin Hall, both young and old, enjoying the sight of the old tractors going past.  It would have reminded older folk of the many Fergies and Fordsons that were used going to the creameries and drawing hay and turf in days past.  After a stop for refreshments  in Dromin we were on our way again to Athlacca and Bruree and back to Effin.  Another great day out for the club.  Many thanks to Margaret and Dom for the soup and sandwiches and to all who helped out in the kitchen and the stewarts.

Spring Run 10 April 2011

Our annual Spring Run on Sunday 10 April was another big success with up on 80 cars and vans – a great turn-out.  We were blessed with a good day.  We started at St. Joseph’s Foundation, Charleville and headed on for Mountcollins where we had our first pit stop and were very well treated with tea and refreshments in the local hall.  From there we toured the scenic north Cork countryside until we arrived at the Charleville Golf Club for dinner and prizegiving.
A big thank you to St. Joseph’s Foundation for the use of their facilities and car park, to all who helped out in the kitchen, to Jerry Hynes for planning the route and putting up the signs, to our stewarts for directing us safely at dangerous junctions and for the assistance we received from the Gardai .  We also thank the local press and radio for their coverage and the Golf Club for an excellent meal.

May Tractor Run 8 May 2011

Charleville and District, Vintage, Veteran and Classic Club would like to thank all who came out on Sunday 08 May for our annual tractor run in aid of Rathfreda Cheshire Home.   We had 60 tractors on the day, a great turn-out for a great cause.  A big thank you to all who supported this run.  After tea and sandwiches at Roche’s garage Kilmallock, we got on the road to Effin and headed for the Ballyhoura mountains.  We travelled through scenic countryside, enjoying the fresh air and steeped in luck with the weather, until we stopped for a picnic provided by Joe Wethers – many thanks to Joe and Marie Wethers.  We got on the track again and rode on through the woods in the direction of Doneraile.   We made our way back to Roche’s  Garage by mid afternoon, where John had refreshments ready for us.  A big thanks to John for kindly giving the use of his premises and yard and looking after us so well.  Thanks to Dom and Margaret Treacy for making delicious sandwiches, to Brigid Barry for serving the tea and coffee, to the staff of Rathfreda for the gorgeous cakes, to Jerry Hynes for planning and signing the route and to all who helped out on the day.  A great day was had by all and we are looking forward to the next run.
