Welcome to the September news letter!
Its been a busy summer for the club with members attending many car shows and vintage runs. And of course we also had the clubs first weekend away – more details on that later.
Also in this newsletter we have details of a restoration project on a 1978 Ford Escort Mk 2 owned by Enda Finn – hopefully we’ll see this car out on the runs in the near future.

Recent club events
The Charleville and District Vintage, Veteran and Classic Car Club held our first weekend away for club members over the weekend of the 25th to the 27th of July. We headed off for the Connemara Gateway Hotel in Oughterard, Co. Galway at 6.00pm from Croom. 13 cars went in convoy lead by John Walsh in a 1966 Ford Anglia. The cars included an Escort Mk 2, Austin A60, 3 Ford Anglias, Cortina Mk 1 and Mk 5, Capri Mk 1, Ford Sierra, VW Golf Mk 2, Bluebird and Toyta Carina. We were at the Gateway at about 8.30pm. We had a nice drive and fine sunny evening. The proprietor of the hotel was delighted to see such pristine old cars in the hotel forecourt. He is also a classic car enthusiast. We had an evening meal and lots of craic and jokes until early morning.
The next day we headed off for Achill and arrived at the Achill Sound Hotel about 3.00pm. We checked in, had a cup of tea and toured around the island taking in the deserted village, Keem beach and toured the Atlantic coast for a few hours. Then back to the hotel where we had a welcome evening meal and relaxed in the lounge and listened to some nice irish music provided by Mike Barry with his accordion and tin whistle (well done Mike!!). There was the usual chat, jokes and tall tales over a few drinks or “saucepans” as some people would say.
Next morning after a leisurely breakfast we got Mass and then headed off for Castlebar to see the National Museum where we spent a few enjoyable hours before heading for home. We were blessed with the weather, nobody got broke down and all got home safely after a great weekend. This I would say will be an annual event!
