We held our new year tractor run on 3 January 2010, again starting from Colmanswell community centre. It was still bitterly cold but at least it was dry (unlike our previous tractor run in September). We had 24 tractors on the day. As before, we were well looked after with plenty to eat and drink and a grand fire to gather around. Fr. O’Neill said some prayers for a safe journey and sent us on our way, blessing all drivers and their tractors. Many thanks Father. We headed for Buttercup Farm where we were treated to delicious soup and sandwiches around a welcoming fire to get the warmth back into us - it can be very cold on a winter’s day driving a vintage tractor, that never knew what a cab looked like. After an enjoyable hour or so, we continued our journey, back to Colmanswell via Castletown and Ballyagran. We had a great day. Thanks to Colmanswell community centre and to Buttercup Farm, many thanks also to the stewarts and to everyone who helped out on the day.
Charleville and District Vintage Veteran and Classic Club held a very successful charity run on Sunday 21st February 2010 in aid of St.Joseph’s Foundation Charleville and The Friends of Mallow Hospital. Following a very frosty morning the day was sunny and dry - we had a good turn out with over 40 cars. Gerry Hynes had a nice route planned; cross country to Athlacca, then on to Croom and Buttercup Farm, where we stopped for a chat over a cup of tea, next to a roaring turf fire. Thanks to the staff of Buttercup Farm for the lovely tea and scones.
Charleville and District, Vintage, Veteran and Classic Club would like to thank all who came out on Sunday 16 May for our annual tractor run in aid of Rathfreda Cheshire Home. We had 35 tractors on the day, a great turn-out on a fine summer’s day. A big thank you to all who supported this run. After tea and sandwiches at Roche’s garage Kilmallock, we got on the road to Effin and headed for the Ballyhoura mountains. We travelled through scenic countryside, enjoying the fresh air and good weather, until we stopped for a picnic provided by Willie Waters – many thanks Willie. We were on the road again at 2 pm and drove on through the woods in the direction of Doneraile. We made our way back to Roche’s Garage at about 3.30, where John had refreshments ready for us. A big thanks to John for kindly giving the use of his premises and yard and looking after us so well. Thanks to Dom and Margaret Tracey for making delicious sandwiches, to Martin Murray Tipperary who sponsored the run and the trophies and to all who helped out on the day. Five hundred euro was raised from the run for the Rathfreda Cheshire Home. Thanks to all.
This was our second summer tractor run and it was another great day. Good weather always makes a big difference to our runs especially to the tractor runs. With the sun shining down on us we started off from Colmanswell and headed in the direction of Kilmeedy to join the vintage rally there. We had a lot of admirers as we drove into the rally field – 30 tractors in convoy is a sight to behold. A big thank you to the ladies of Colmanswell Community Centre for treating us to tea and scones in the morning and to John Gorman and the Kilmeedy Vintage Rally Committee for looking after us in the field. The refreshments were welcome on such a hot day and the trophies are displayed with pride. Our members were busy over the summer months attending events, shows and runs - Charleville Show, Classic Car Live in Mondello, Terenure Vintage Day in Dublin, Duhallow and Clare Runs and the West Limerick Vintage Day – to mention but a few. Meet Up in Effin on 29 August 2010
We held our annual autumn run on Sunday 19 September. Despite the big match on the day – Cork beating Down in the All-Ireland Football final –and a few other events coinciding with ours, it was a great success with over 70 cars turning out. Though the weather wasn’t great, we had a very enjoyable drive taking in Liscarroll, Lombardstown, Nad and Lyre and had our first pit stop in Millstreet Country Park for refreshments and to stretch the legs for a while. After an hour or so we got on our way again, back to Charleville to the Golf Club to watch the match and enjoy a good dinner. It is always very difficult to decide on the prize winners as all the cars are in such good condition. The following won prizes: Mick Barry for his Austin, Sean O’Sullivan for his Opel Kadet, Martin Murray for his NSU Prins, David O’Connell for his Panther and Billy Kiely for his truck. A big thanks to all and especially to Dom for all his hard work organising the run and putting up signs, Gerry Hynes for planning the route, St Joseph’s Foundation for the use of their facilities, the ladies in the kitchen serving the tea and coffee, all our stewarts for directing us safely along the way, the Charleville Golf Club staff and to the local radio and press for great advertising and coverage. Autumn Tractor Run on 3 October in aid of Marymount Hospice We held our Autumn Tractor run on Sunday 3 October 2010 in aid of Marymount Hospice in Cork. We had a great turn out on the day with over 30 tractors taking part. We gathered at the Bridge Bar in Ballyhea and had a very enjoyable drive. A thousand euro was collected for this very worthy cause. |
